Project History

The B. Everett Jordan Reservoir – known as Jordan Lake – was planned and constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Before Jordan Lake existed, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of North Carolina agreed that some of the lake’s water would be used for public water supply. Since then, the State of North Carolina has distributed Jordan Lake's water supply among the area utilities.

In 1989, property was reserved near the lake for a future water treatment plant. With this property in mind, the Western Intake Partnership (WIP) formed in 2014 and launched its water supply program in 2019. With this, the vision of securing a long-term water supply for the region can finally become a reality.
